For
each scenario below, choose the most appropriate answer from the list above.
Each option may be used once, more than once or not at all.
1. A 56 year old man
presents to A&E. He is very confused and appears lethargic. He does not
remember any recent injuries, but his breath smells of alcohol and he has
bruising suggestive of a fall a few days ago.
2. A 37 year old woman who has recently
lost her mother was brought into A&E after experiencing palpitations, chest
pain, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness while grocery shopping. Her
symptoms lasted a little over 10 minutes and on admission her pulse rate was
60bpm and BP was 110/70.
3. A 28 year old man
presents to A&E in a semi-conscious state. His heart rate is 48bpm, BP is
80/60, temperature is 35oC and he has pinpoint pupils.
4. A 70 year old woman
presents with sudden onset of fever, headache, scalp tenderness, blurred vision
and jaw pain.
5. A 72 year old woman is
brought into hospital by her son. Although she does not feel there is anything
wrong, he is concerned about her recent irritability and aggression. On further
questioning it appears she has been becoming increasingly forgetful over the
past few years, although her memory of her childhood remains intact. Her MMSE
is 19.
